Décès de l’actrice Kelly Preston, épouse de John Travolta, à 57 ans d’un cancer du sein

L’actrice américaine Kelly Preston, qui a joué dans des films à succès comme « Jerry Maguire » ou « Twins », est décédée d’un cancer du sein à l’âge de 57 ans, a annoncé dimanche son mari John Travolta.

« C’est le coeur très lourd que je vous informe que ma splendide épouse Kelly a perdu le combat qu’elle menait depuis deux ans contre un cancer du sein », a écrit l’acteur sur Instagram. « Elle s’est courageusement battue avec l’amour et le soutien de nombreuses personnes ».

She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.  My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered. I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while.  But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.

Un représentant de la famille a précisé au magazine américain spécialisé People qu’elle était morte dimanche matin. « Souhaitant mener son combat en privé, elle a suivi des traitements médicaux depuis quelque temps, soutenue par sa famille proche et ses amis », a déclaré ce représentant à People.

Née le 13 octobre 1962 à Hawaï, Kelly Preston a étudié le théâtre à l’Université de Californie du Sud (USC). Elle était devenue célèbre avec son rôle dans la comédie « Twins » en 1988, aux côtés d’Arnold Schwarzenegger et Danny DeVito. Elle a joué dans des dizaines de films et de séries télévisées durant sa carrière. Dans la comédie romantique « Jerry Maguire » (1996), où jouaient également Tom Cruise et Renee Zellweger, elle incarnait l’ex-fiancée du personnage principal.

Elle avait épousé John Travolta en 1991. Le couple a eu trois enfants, dont l’aîné est mort en 2009 à l’âge de 16 ans.
